Poor Lady Liberty, as you probably know she is, like most of us, an immagrant, to be used in a toon to promote fear and hate against immigants.

When times get hard the hate-mongers come out, what is so despicable this time is that the GOP is using this hate and anger to get votes.

Even if you rounded up all of the illegials and threw them over the wall it still wouldn’t end the recession because they the jobs they are doing are the lowest paying one which aren’t going to save America.

People and business aren’t suppose to be hiring illegials, so instead of spending billions building walls and rounding up people, why don’t we spend millions to build a immigration system and green card system that works.

ANandy - Wrong again, you dolt. You shouldn’t criticize others when you don’t know the facts yourself.

The Statue of Liberty stands on Liberty Island, not Ellis Island. Liberty Island was originally (along with Ellis Island) called Oyster Island by the Dutch and then England. It later was named Bedloe’s Island, after the oysterman who bought it from an Englishman in 1667.

Well I went to the website Andy posted, and I can begin to see why he is so angry, the website makes it seem like Obama had done the dumbest thing in the history of mankind, and done it on purpose.

My other point is, if I remember correctly, it has always been made clear that the statue was a gift from the French, but the base it stand on my paid for by donations from the children of America.

Reagan granted the amnesty. Republican history books can only be written in pencil, and they keep wearing out the erasers.

The illegal aliens from the South are not emigrants nor immigrants - they are invaders, in every sense of the word!

To call them, consider them as immigrants, illegal or otherwise, is an affront to every American, including this naturalized American.

@ GoreBane - well, if I can surmise that your rant means that illegal immigrants who have not broken any (other) US laws, work dilligently and are otherwise no problem CAN be legalized, I agree with you.

@ Petergrt - where I’m coming from there’s a saying that it’s better to swallow a big bite than say a big word. Care to prove the point you off-handedly made about all “illegal aliens”, and with more than just a bit of anecdotal evidence? Sure, there will be some crooks, murderers, and other evil people among them, but there are going to be many (perhaps the majority) who could be as good citizens of the US as the average American nowaday is. The bit about them not being worthy of the appelation “illegal immigrants” is preposterous. Yeah, sure, like other immigrant groups haven’t been accused of being lazy, evil, godless, immoral, or God knows what else.

So that’s what it’s all about. the GOP wouln’t make such a big deal if those immigrants were all rabid anti communists cuban exiles.

I started to write a response, but it would be way too long. To really understand the extent of the invasion, one needs to visit southern US and if you dare, see the underground economy, visit criminal courts, visit county hospitals, visit welfare offices, view / listen to Latino TV and radio, visit public schools, and on and on. There is a 0 effort to assimilate. Indeed, a non-Latino living here feels more as a visitor than a host. Are most of them criminals? Absolutely, and on several levels! Aside of being illegally in the country, underground economy deprives the government of taxes, while the tax supported social services are overrun by them …, not to mention drug and street crime and gangs.

The other day I was at a criminal court in LA (I was sited for having an ice-cream at a subway station …who knew it was illegal), and I was immediately assigned a Spanish translator - it turns out that almost 100% of non-black defendants are Latino.

The significant difference between Cubans and the So American invaders is that the invaders are by enlarge freeloaders, well atoned to the leftist pOOOOOP, while the Cubans are proactive capitalists producing wealth.

Is there much to tax if a guy makes half the minimum wage?

“the Cubans are proactive capitalists producing wealth.”

ie; they are republicans. Or else, you’d call them illegal aliens
