harley, BP did as much as they could to conceal (1) that it was a problem, and (2) how much of a problem it was. They used dispersant to hide it!

0bama, the competent, has allowed foreign skimmers to begin scooping up the oil.

    71-days after the blowup … .!!!

God forbid that they would be in any hurry - they allowed only 12 such foreign organizations, while they investigate several tens of other proposals …

Can anyone imagine the headlines on the nation’s newspapers if it were GWB’s action, or rather, lack thereof?

I believe it was Nigeria where over 250 people were just killed salvaging gas from an overturned tanker truck. Also just saw a report an “A Whale” with its skimming capacity. The guy actually pointed out that all the skimming rigs in the world couldn’t have kept up with this spill. It is a LOT bigger than ever announced- and proper procedures from the government were followed from the beginning.

Remember folks, once he was shot, nobody was able to save Lincoln, or the Kennedy brothers- when the damage is so massive, a “Band Aid” can’t stop it. Now, restoring regulations and inspections- the government role Obama intends to reinstate, and that’s part of the “moratorium” on exploration wells- IS the right thing to do.

Those who think Obama could have done more should go through Texas and bring back to life all the armadillos lying by the road.

The government has extended its tentacles into banking, automotive companies, health care. By not solving the oil crisis, people will demand the government come up with a solution. The solution will be $7 per gallon gasoline, people having lifestyle “choices” forced upon them. Back to one car families and city living.

Change you can believe in. Yeah, change in your pocket where you once had dollars.

Droutma, a road accident involving a truck tanker full of gasoline killed over 200 people in the north eastern Congo, between Bukavu and the Burundi border. The worst Nigerian pipeline fire killed almost 2000 people a few years ago.

Ever noticed BP’s choice of words? They call it an oil spill. It is not an oil spill. It is a blow out. But then blow out sounds so much worse than oil spill…

“well the president can use an “executive order” to set aside the jones act. congress could just “deem” it a non-violation.”

Yes, but the President could use an ‘Executive Order’ to stop kicking out our honorable troops. Haven’t seen that, either.

“well the president can use an “executive order” to set aside the jones act. congress could just “deem” it a non-violation.”

Well, GWB, the most incompetent of US Presidents, has waived the Jones Act - within 3 days of Katrina … . .

Hey, let’s but the blame where it should be put. Square on the shoulders of BP. Political bickering will not solve the problem. Coming together with cogent solutions for now and into the future will. If it takes a carbon tax to induce people to conserve, then I’m all for it. Maybe $7 a gallon is what Americans need to wake up to this energy crisis we face. Almost every President in the last half of the 20th century as well as GWB has told us we must get energy independent. It’s about time we did. Don’t blame the messenger. Blame the American people who haven’t been asked (or willing) to sacrifice since WWII.

    http://keithhennessey.com/2010/06/18/how-to-waive-the-jones-act/

0bama doesn’t even have to issue the Jones Act waiver … .just accept the offered foreign help.

One of the basic rules of tort law is that the injured party, in this case US, shall act to limit its damages.

Though the initial blow-up and the consequent gushing of oil is clearly the responsibility of the BP-team, a very strong case could be made that the US has failed in limiting to consequent damages.

Thanks, akibono- it was the DR Congo- It is indeed the contempt of the oil companies to CYA their actions with PR and verbiage, laced with lots of payoffs, that allows them to skate, all around the world.

In countries that have had high fuel taxes for years, they’ve invested in mass transit (efficient) and much more efficient vehicles, home heating, electricity generation, and other sounder “energy policies”.

$4 gas slowed the consumption of high consuming pigs on car dealer’s lots, and “damaged” and industry committing suicide and taking the country with it, but maybe we’re seeing the light, and waking up? Sixty years late.

I wonder how much the GOP is paying people to shift the blame for the spill from BP onto Obama.
