Looks like a home and landscape which has been transformed the way someone around me wanted it changed; all this, because of the way Apache was defined .
Well, church, I find many, perhaps most, of your posts condescending and arrogant even when you post something interesting, but some I don’t. And apparently I think I’m speaking truth far more than you do. No doubt vice versa. But I think it would be fair to say that both of us stake out a set of opinions that we ourselves think is well-reasoned and/or well-supported, whether or not we agree.
I don’t see that from ANandy. I see a lot of vitriol, a lot of bile, and a remarkable hatred of Obama that leads ANandy to spout comments that have no relationship whatsoever to the cartoon at hand, just so he can repeat his same lame pun on the Presidential title. I notice also that never, never, never does s/he ever use the term “president” or even the name “Obama,” which suggests a level of contempt and hatred even I didn’t show for George W. Bush. Furthermore, the constant refrain of “liar” and “idiot” is neither funny nor truthful. Especially for someone who has been known to delete the particularly stupid and obnoxious comments – like when caught out in facts – without EVER acknowledging that fact.
Funny? Rarely. More like Mallard Fillmore than trenchant political commentary.
Every once in a great while – say every hundredth post or more – ANandy comes out from the name-calling and says something that indicates there is a brain behind the knee-jerk reaction. I welcome that, but it is far, far too rare. (And no doubt I’ll get insulted - again - for this.) Frankly, it astonishes me that someone would spend this much time essentially writing the same post over and over.
As for other posters: I speak only for myself, churchill. That’s why I stick to one handle only. Your views about what the “liberals” think of various posters do not reflect mine. Dr. Canuck – see, even you don’t do him the courtesy of using his chosen handle – has clearly decided to be a gadfly, more so than he used to be, and thus is becoming closer to ANandy in style. I have come to believe that SenorBullwinkle is a performance artist. I would never post some of the things he posts (like the insults), but I am surprised by how often he provides interesting links and has real thought behind his Molotov cocktail posts. But he’s more of an anarchist humorist than I am.
I find Ken honest, forthright and passionate. I don’t always agree with him, or with his reactions, which I sometimes find a bit too strong. (But then I sometimes find you historically deficient.)
I don’t think any of them are “typical” liberals. My favorite “lefty” posters are fennec and cdward, a scientist and a minister; but I like many of the posters here when they offer something interesting. cfimeiatpap has been posting great links without comment, and I wish I had the patience to do so. I’m likely to read yours, even if they tick me off. Bruce feels like he’s really engaging, even when he’s just jerking people’s chains.
There are extremes both ways. I don’t defend them, only their right to post. That includes ANandy, whom I think I have flagged once in the past six months, and that post got removed by ANandy, which should tell you something.
I have posted before that I would prefer civility – from BOTH sides, or perhaps ALL sides, since I don’t think it’s a simple bipolar axis, not fitting with any of the stereotypes myself – and I do. I think we are reflecting the same polarization taking place in our political culture, and it’s bad for the US. Let me suggest what that looks like:
Call people by their names. Including Obama and Bush.
If you’re going to disagree, don’t add insults - add references
If you’re making a dramatic point, try to add a citation to it
Don’t assume any “side” has all the right answers. History is not on your side.
I don’t mind ANANDY or any of the weirdoes who post. I think it’s interesting to realize that there is this range of opinion out there – a range I would never come across in my own daily rounds. I’ve learned some things even from conservative posters. For instance, I think that church is right to insist that the tax question include all taxes, not just federal taxes. I’m not sure I draw the same conclusions he does from that, but it’s a good point. I’m also interested to read about the immigration issue, about which I do not post, because I don’t feel that I know enough. I do wish everyone would think better – I include myself in that wish – and I don’t see the point of the insults without context. On either side.
churchill, I was talking about the posters, not the cartoons. You need to lighten up a bit, too!
Dr Canuck, sorry, I didn’t mean in terms of the bile and vitriol, I meant that you seem to have moved in the direction of pushing buttons more than you used to. And I think you have been more actively insulting the righties.
You’d have to go a lot farther to reach ANandy’s level.
