Nothing new here. It’s a mother’s job to worry about how her children are doing!

Mary Lou has already said it was the best year of her life. That is worth every penny they lost.

It is far better to have tried and failed at a dream than to keep working for the man 40+ hours a week and never chased the dream. I started my won photography business in June 2008 (great timing) and although it is not enough to support my family, I am glad I did it. I now have a salaried job working 55 – 60 hrs a week with no time to breathe. I learned a lot about running a business and yes, I still do photography. I have a reception for an award from Umstead State park coming up. I chased my dream and attained it but not to the degree I wanted. I wouldn’t change a thing.

(Rueful grin)… Boy, do I know this one. I agree about the “united front” idea… but this really is about having the same opinions. I have learned over the years to gauge the “passion” my wife feels about whatever she is expressing before I open my mouth to express a potentially divergent opinion. The old adage about pipe smokers and how chomping on the stem keeps them from talking too much is very apt in my case.

New lettering? I always wonder, do cartoonists come up with their own fonts (now that lettering is almost always done by computer) or do they purchase a font?…

Jimmy could give them some cartoon money to tide them over….

@MeGoNow: you hit the nail on the head! I try not to be this way with my grown kids, although I know I’m not perfect. Maybe by venting to Arlo, Janis won’t say it to Gene.

First of all — she’s more right than Arlo on this one. And Arlo has a need, like most men, to stay blissfully ignorant and its too late for them to do anything but complain…

Janis would probably be a lot happier and more relaxed if she didn’t clench her fists so much. She can worry about her adult child all she wants, but keep her opinions to herself. Why upset her husband or child with her concerns?

It is conventional wisdom that if you do what you love, you will be a success. Gene and Mary Lou are going to be fine. They are committed and willing to put sweat into being successful at that farm. Others do it, they will also.

Yup, however, according to Obama, if they are successful they will be told that they didn’t do it on their own.
