Cecil was not a vicious predator. He was part of a study being done by the University of Oxford, and he was loved by many. He was first wounded with an arrow and then finally killed almost two days later; nothing humane about it. And you may call a lion a vicious predator, but Cecil was not killed because he was attacking someone—he was lured out purely for the thrill of the hunt. Not killed for food, not killed for any reason except that some arse hole gets a thrill from killing animals. That’s it. Who did you say the vicious predator was?
And by the way, if someone was catching a “big fish” like a whale, it would still get people upset. Any animal that is endangered should not be hunted, whether under the sea or on land. Quite frankly, I don’t believe animals should be hunted for any reason but food, and not even for food if they are endangered. What kind of a human being takes pleasure in hunting just for the sake of killing an animal? It’s disgusting.
I just read that dentist is re-opening his office. I wonder if he’ll have any employees or patients? I wouldn’t work for him or be treated by him. Ugh! I understand hunting for food but will never understand how somebody enjoys killing an animal or would pay $50,000 dollars to do it. I’ve worked in dentistry for 43 years and have often heard patients remark when told they need a crown or some other restoration “I guess the Dr. needs to pay for his boat/vacation/expensive car,” etc. I have never heard one say “I guess the Dr. needs to pay for his hunting trip to Africa to kill an animal for a trophy.” I hope the idiot goes down in flames.

It wasn’t the cute name that made it offensive. It was luring him off a protected game preserve.

I understand there were many African antelope who didn’t shed a single tear over Cecil’s demise. That’s what I heard, anyway.
