The caption says 2 June 1912, but the header says 29 Nov. 1914. The difference is only about 2.5 years, but a lot happened between those two dates.
P.S. If it really was 57 billion Pfennige (in Reichmarks), then the inheritance would have been worth about 135 million dollars. This means the lawyer is stiffing the Captain for more than 99%, so he deserved the spanking. The massive devalutation of the Reichsmark did not begin until the 1920’s.
At this date, it was not the Reichsmark, but the Papiermark. But this was early in the war, so the Papiermark was not too far from the Mark’s traditional value of about 25¢ US.
