Rall got caught lying. That happens when you lie. Ask Ward Churchill. Glad he got fired. There have to be consequences for false accusations especially to try and gather personal glory. Rall is no better than army supply clerks claiming they were Army Rangers and claiming medals they were not awarded. They and he are pathetic.

And the LAPD does not have the pull to give orders to the LA Times. Think about it, if they did, misbehavior would not be reported at all. The L-A-T is a liberal rag, very much so. If the LAPD had tried to order them to fire Rall, they’d have refused then shouted the story to the mountaintops. They’d glory in their refusal to fire Rall on LAPD orders. They’d wallow in the pride of telling the fascist police to go to Hades. Liberals all over the country would swoon at the sound of their name. Farrakhan, Jackson and Sharpton, Obama and Clinton and Pelosi and Streisand and Lear and Jane Fonda would all be singing their praises. So no, the LAPD did not order them to fire Rall. What possible pressure could they use to force the Times to comply?

On June 27, the Times fired Rall, claiming he had fabricated the incident. Although the LAPD does not dispute that Rall was ticketed for jaywalking, the department provided the Times with an audio recording which it claims proves that other details of the incident were exaggerated or invented, including the angry witnesses. An editor’s note on the blog post reads, in part:

“The recording and other evidence provided by the LAPD raise serious questions about the accuracy of Rall’s blog post. Based on this, the piece should not have been published.

Rall’s future work will not appear in The Times.”

However, the LAPD’s recording was of poor quality, and muffled in places. Greg Palast, a well-known investigative journalist who employs Rall, asked for a copy of the tape to give to audio experts. The experts enhanced the recording, revealing hidden and crucial details:

“Oh, mama! To my surprise – and Rall’s glee – the crowd that he had allegedly fantasized about suddenly came alive – with three women shouting, ‘Why’d you handcuff him?’ and ‘Take off his handcuffs!’ – the handcuffs that were supposedly fabricated by Rall. (One woman helpfully suggested to the officer, ‘Don’t forget to ride his —hole!’)

Palast provided a transcript of this enhanced recording, which shows that many details are missing from the official LAPD transcript.

    L. A. Times liberal? I guess, if you consider anything to the left of far right to be liberal. In August of 2000, a group of cyclists were doing a Critical Mass thing as part of a larger demonstration against the Democratic Convention. That was the only time I was ever glad I had bicycle problems which was the only reason I didn’t get caught up in a really dirty move pulled by the L.A.P.D. . Go to http://www.critical-mass.info/police.html and scroll down the right hand side of the box to “Los Angeles, CA, USA” for details. I wouldn’t put anything past the L.A.P.D. .

So you got screwed by the system. So does everyone else in America. Daily. Beginning with stealing the country from the original owners to our modern-day fascist-capitalism, the USA has always been and is still built on the principle of screwing people. Mind you, we do have lots of pretty words to make it all sound OK. Not that I agree with their actions, Rall, but you do stick your head further up into the bullet-stream than most. Keep up the good work.
