I would say your choices, Mr. C. You choose your field of study before you chose your career….

Couldn’t agree more. Unless a person gets a hard-science degree, most college degrees are worthless.

If some idiot with medium power hates you enough to get you blacklisted, hard science degree will not help (as many discovered, like Oppenheimer), while a liberal arts training will enable you to change careers, one step ahead. Been there, done that.

It shows you had enough discipline & perseverance to get the degree. More impressive on job applications than the scarlet “quitter” label of a jr. high dropout.

Well, Dad’s advice was useless. As others have pointed out, a college degree, even if not used in one’s profession, is valuable, in that one met people outside one’s immediate family, interacted with them and their ideas, which were probably different from the ones you grew up with, probably read a fair number of books, probably learned to research, possibly learned to express a reasoned argument in written form, and were diligent, something not normally associated with the American teenager. Plus, you learned a lot of things that you would not have learned sitting around and watching TV.So, to answer the question in the comic, I’d have to say that Dad’s advice was more useless.
