Val: What were you and Holly chatting about?
Phil: Oh, what she thought about me at first.
Phil: And about her dad and how she misses him...stuff like that...
Val: Wow. She really likes you.
Phil: Should be smooth sailing from here, right?
Alix: HA.

“Ha,” scoffs Alix. “As if!” Are you sure, Phil?

Jan, I am sorry to read about the bush fires in Oregon. Some of the commenters on Ten Cats mentioned them. My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. Are the fires still burning?

Wow if looks could kill Phil that is what Holly would do. Holly your mom has the right to know what you both talked of and Phil was giving you favor.

“..I doubt Holly heard anything except the “HA!” and knowing her sister is what the dark look is all about..”-———————————————————————————-
I hope you are right but those eyes suggest more than that. I think Phil needs to recognize (at least at least for the short term) that Holly was talking to him in confidence and that if he wants to continue the benefit of knowing that she will be truthful (with him), he would be wise not to be flippant about it thereby reversing all the gains he has made. I’m a bit surprised by his last remark. He doesn’t realize that Holly is at the age where kids/teens tend not to open up and to keep things to themselves.

Funny how everybody does not remember what a brat Alix was by playing with dolls, calling them her mother’s date, and killing them off…
