Several years ago, I attended a concert by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Just before the show was to start, all of the musicians left the stage and were replaced by a bunch of youngsters. They then proceeded to butcher the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. The audience, being polite, gave them a standing ovation. I just cringed. This was not what I spent $100 to hear.
I always looked forward to our kids’ year end concerts. The teachers did wonders with the kids. I still remember those days. We have pictures. We didn’t have a camera so I didn’t have the video or audio in the younger grades. Later on, as cameras came in, the school taped each concert and we bought copies for the grandparents. They loved seeing their grandkids performing too.

Thankfully I did none of that. NO butchering anyone’s music to be recorded for posterity.
