I’m suddenly reminded of the old childrens story “Stone Soup” where a group of soldiers convince villagers to contribute meat and vegetables so they can see the miracle of their stone soup, soup made with nothing more than a “magic” stone.
There is a variant of that story where a soldier trying to get a meal from a miserly old woman uses a “magic nail” that he says will make a fine soup. Of course in the making of that soup he persuades her that a soup bone, a few carrots and turnips, a bit of meat, etc. would make the soup that much better. The soup, of course, was delicious. After sharing the soup the old woman persuades the soldier to sell her the nail. He does so…and picks up a new nail down the road for the next time!
