In my day, school started on the Wednesday following Labor Day. It was our last holiday, then the next day (Tuesday) was sort of a non-day, or so it felt. And then the next day (Wednesday) was the first day of school. The novelty wore off by the end of the week.

labor day during Christmas, i love it! The church has a “Christmas in September” for missionaries.
