I used to have a little booklet titled “Codes and Secret Writing” that had a bunch of different styles of codes in it, some that you could alter to make them your own. I have always loved codes. My younger daughter picked that up from me.
There’s a Romance writer by the name of Nora Roberts who also writes detective novels under the name of JD Robb. I always suspected that she came up with her Mystery writer name using substitution code since N is the 14th letter of the alphabet, J is the 10th and D is the 4th and Robb is just Rob, short for Robert with an extra B to make it look more like a last name.
Even More fun is the code where you select all the Words for the message from a Book and the Code is a series of Page Numbers followed by the word’s Position on the page..3/33 10/45 51/2 1/1 150/14.Of course, to Translate it, you both have to have copies of the Book. Also, in many cases, the Same Print Run or Revision, since publishers sometimes change how many Words per Page there are in different printing runs. Or, if the Author Revises a Textbook or Reference work..Anyone setting up a code like this will find it best to purchase Both Copies at the same time, in the same Bookstore. Of course, circumstances may make that Impossible.Other Variations could depend on using copies of the book found in Public Libraries in which case both “Coders” need to Know the Printing History of the book to avoid miscommunications. .

It looks like: Vowels a=1, e=2, i=3, o=4,…, y=6.Consonants b=7, … h=12, j=13, … l=15,…n=17,…r=20, …s=21,…t=22,…w=24, …
