My mom speaks Canadian French; my father doesn’t. When they were getting married, my parents asked the priest to PLEASE do the service in English. The day came…and the priest forgot! He did the entire service in French! My mother had to tell my father when to “Say ‘Oui’!”
Like trying to order an Applebees steak in Plattsburgh, NY and getting a sneer from the adjacent table from a “Québecois” who couldn’t speak True French, gun to their (gender of the damned language) head. Better, back in the day, that my HS had taught Turkish, Arabic, Korean or Chinese than standard French and Latin crap..They even had CLUBS for us ! Who knew? Certainly not my HS ‘career advisor’ who had grad’ed an AG college. Foo.
