^Welcome to the club, although my brother at the same time could do no wrong, especially when beating the c**p out of me on a regular basis. He was her first, therefore “perfect”.

Also, while some time ago, my supervisor in law enforcement was black, and a really good guy, but whenever we contacted the public together, it was always assumed I was “the boss”. That still hasn’t changed much.

I’m biracial (Caucasian/Native American) and I’ve caught more hate from Native Americans than I have from Caucasians. Racism only works if you accept it. Reject it, ignore it and it has little effect on you. Even though I look Native, cops don’t hassle me because:a) I don’t have open liquor containers or contraband in the car, and am not smoking weed when they pull up.b) I don’t give them attitude to begin with. I am calm and therefore they stay calm. I smile when I talk to them and they smile back.c) I make no sudden moves which can come across as threatening. I keep my hands in sight and the dome light on at night as they walk up. Hey, a lot of cops are being shot at traffic stops. I understand they’re nervous.d) When I am polite, they are polite. I ask why I was pulled over (I don’t speed, etc). I don’t tell them they pulled me over for driving while Red, I don’t give an attitude.

By being civil and using common sense and everyday manners, I have zero problems with the police. I have noticed one of my friends, who is original African Black in color, likewise has no problems with the police as he treats them civilly and smiles at them, and he is about as Black as a man can be. He talks nice to them, smiles and is polite and they return his attitude. He tends to drive a bit fast but is seldom ticketed just because he’s polite. “Oops, sorry, officer/deputy/trooper, I wasn’t watching my speed.” In most cases, he gets a warning and that’s it, No yelling, no angst, no attitude from the cop. He’s never hauled out of the car and put in “the position”.

Use common sense and decency people, and see what happens. Cops have a tough and dangerous job. Cops are shot every month it seems at routine traffic stops. Just walking up to the vehicle can get them killed. So no attitude, okay?

“Once again Mr.Rall has shown that liberal idiocy knows no bounds.”Absolutely. Sandra Bland might be alive today if she had shown the respect due to the officer given their comparitive stations in life.

biggstrip is evidently another graduate of the Pee Wee school of debate.

I understand stereotyping by police as I frequently wear tie dyes, have had very long hair several times and currently have a long beard. In my case, they don’t beat or shoot me, they just want to search me and/or my vehicle. That doesn’t bother me. I’m used to it and know how to handle it. As hawgowar said, don’t display an attitude (even if the cop is nasty) and keep your hands at 10 & 2 o’clock. What does bother me is the increasing militarization of police, the increasing number of police who view civilians as enemies and the small number of police who seem to think that they are the law. I live in a city in upstate NY with a population of just under 50,000. There is not a crime problem here but the police have a SWAT truck. The neighboring village, with a population of about half that, also has a SWAT truck. For what, to chase down unruly skateboarders? Police everywhere are buying military equipment and showing a willingness to use it. Why? Crime has been steadily declining in this country for quite some time. They are supposed to be our servants, not our masters.

Great video and how cops (Keepers Of The Peace) should act. Too bad he’s probably retired.

“We” are allowed to ask why we are being arrested or being detained at which point said officer is required to state the reason why we are being arrested or detained. If a person of color asks an officer why they are being arrested they are not told the reason why but told, “Stop resisting arrest!” The next comment from the officer is, “Don’t grab at my gun!” All while the person of color is cuffed and face down on the ground. There are good cops and bad cops, the bad cops give good cops a bad name. The good cops need to stand up and stop the bad cops.
