Fifth-grader throws a rock at another student. Teacher solves problem: gives rocks to ALL the students. Only a good kid with a rock can stop a bad kids with a rock. The only one who should have the rock is the Teacher. But right now, everyone else has the rocks EXCEPT the teacher.

Actually, Bruce4671, there are NO PROPOSALS — zero — to actually take guns away from responsible, lawful owners or prevent them from acquiring weapons. I believe in reasonable rules of the road, but I’m not trying to take away everyone’s automobiles. The only proposals actually out there are pretty simple: 1. Universal background checks for ALL sales, including closing the gun show loopholes and Internet sales, so shady, fly-by-night sellers are not given an unfair competitive advantage over real entrepreneurs who invest in real, brick-and-mortar retail stores. This is something that does not prevent law-abiding citizens from obtaining or owning guns, but helps weed out the criminals and the crazies. Even Wayne LaPierre endorsed this back when he was younger and less irrational, as in this 1999 congressional testimony. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-oqfPojhec 2. Restrictions on ammunition feeders to limit the number of bullets that can be fired at one time, which does not impede reasonable sporting use or self defense. 3. Restrictions on certain semi-automatic and assault-style weapons that have no valid use in sporting activities or self defense and are only necessary for killing lots of people quickly. No one needs these except the military and law enforcement while on duty.

So is Switzerland, and it has one of the highest number of guns per capita. Tells you something about a society.

interesting article in the oregonian today:http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2015/07/homicide_in_oregon.htmland i don’t think we have fewer guns per capita than any other state. gun homicides appear to be more about demographics…

@ChevJames007 — I am satisfied with my response. If you need an assault-style rifle or semiautomatic or need can’t hit your target within ten shots for either hunting or self-defense, you are not much of a hunter (wait ’til you see you prey after a semi-automatic weapon) and whoever you are defending will be long dead. I am sick and tired of those who defend the NRA domestic terrorist organization that sacrifices small children in schools on the altar of corporate gun manufacturer’s corporate profits. I cited a link to congressional testimony under oath from Wayne LaPierre. I cited other specifics. You cited NOTHING except personal insults. The NRA, and all the public accomplices who aid and abet their domestic terrorism, have blood on their hands.

6 Reasons Mr. Benson. It will help the Mexican economy as their criminal element will step in and bring those nasty assault rifles which would become a status symbol for our criminal element.

Kind of snarky coming from a “non American” but for want of a place to start, maybe just narrow it down to Americans named according to fanatic belief. Then, we can progress to “other” nut cases. How these whack jobs can avoid detection by those surrounding them seems to defy all logic. Are we too stupid to recognize a whack job in our midst?

Not true. Listen to what Spain has to say:Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo, has been loud and clear in the Congress of Deputies, referring to the Islamic State, against which he says is not worth any diplomatic solution. With Daesh there can be no other solution than the military, there is no negotiation, or Libya or Syria or Iraq. There is only one possibility: physically eliminate [them].

And what’s even more important, their ownership.
