There’s no sense talking to that pup.

    Lynn’s Notes:

If you don’t have a dog, it’s difficult to make jokes about stuff that dogs actually do. Little incidents like this one, taken from every day life, inspired my imagination. Using this as material for the strip, saved my dog from woe.

My pugs’ current fascination is gnawing off a horseradish leaf near the base (they are 2 feet long), bringing them in the house, and eating them at their leisure.

Dogs are dogs. You really just want them to look at you and give you a big smile. Our only flower beds are inside an electric fence because of the deer. Pup, dig if you want to dig.

On a hot day, a dog will find a moist spot (like a flower bed) dig it up to bring the wet soil to the surface, and lie there where evaporation provides natural cooling. We put several bags of play sand on the shady side of the house and put one of my drip waterers into it so that it stayed moist, just for the dogs to dig up and lie in. They quickly learned that spot was for them. The sand prevents them from getting muddy.

I used to have this big beautiful strawberry garden before my current dogs came along :/

My garden is fenced partly for that reason, but I’d rather have a dog than a garden any day.

Don’t yell at Farley, you will be missing him soon enough.

She’s not squinting at anything. That’s how she always looks whenever she’s scowling about something.

I have seen many a kid today act exactly how Farley does. Take the scolding and go right back to what they were doing in the first place, that got them that scolding. In one ear and out the other.

Not to worry — Farl will forgive you for putting flowers in his bed.

Having sand anywhere is just inviting cats to find a soft place to go. It also makes for little doggie snacks.
