My sister adopted as basset hound/beagle mix. First morning home she opened the door to let the dog out and Maggie saw a rabbit. 5:30 in the morning and she’s taking off baying after the rabbit. Took my brother in law 30 minutes to find her. Later that morning their neighbor commented “So, hear you have a new dog?” Maggie was an escape artist. No matter how small the hole in the fence, she would find it.

My parents had a beagle mix named….Bob, who had run away from an abusive owner. He showed up on their porch one morning and never left. Best dog in the world. They had him for 16 years.

We have a lab/pit bull who crawls under our chain link fence – the small spikes, far from deterring him, scratch his back in a pleasurable way. Since he is fairly passive, it is usually not a problem, except when he sees a passing deer – he wants to play with those big dogs.

My pound puppie someone stole after two days. She escaped and came back – remembered two square meals at my house!

For heaven’s sake, Bob, you never heard of a foxhound? Beagles aren’t as fast as that, but they’ve been used as hunting dogs for over a hundred years.
