The pool where I swam as a kid had a team of 4 Lifeguards On Duty at all times who did their best to keep us from carrying out most of the “Jackass” level ideas we came up with..We complained about the “Spoilsports” at the time, of course, but I can only remember ONE fatality in the 15 or so years I swam at that pool..That was a Drowning from pure Exhaustion. A girl who just kept Swimming back and forth until she just Couldn’t mover her arms any more. She slipped under the water so Quietly that no one noticed for several minutes..After that, the pool began Enforcing a 5 minute Rest Period, every hour on the hour, where Everyone got out and just sat on the edge of the pool..Very few people grumbled because everyone Knew about the girl who had drowned..It was actually a pretty good record for a pool complex that was large enough to hold about 500 or so swimmers at a time.
