No, actually, scientists don’t think we’re going to go early.
We are technologically advanced omnivorous generalists, with the ability to live in quite a wide range of temperatures, and with our technology even to live outside that range, and transform almost every single ecosystem into productivity for our food instead of food for something else. Even rats and cockroaches are only as successful as they are in spreading because they ride in on our coattails and live in environments that we set up.
We’re going to be around until we’ve eaten the planet right down to the level of algae.
I’m just hoping we learn how not to be quite that short-sightedly destructive before we’ve been totally that destructive.
