It’s kind of amazing that a movie made 76 years ago is still so frequently quoted in comic strips, TV shows, movies, etc.. And it is the movie, not the book(s) that is the source of the references.

I haven’t read the book in years, but if I remember correctly Dorothy did kill the witch with water in the book, but it wasn’t played up the way it was in the movie. Speaking of the movie, here’s a couple trivia questions (I’ll come back with the answers tomorrow), Who was originally suppose to be Dorothy, but they couldn’t get her because she was under contract to another movie company (hint: she was closer in age and hair color to the Dorothy in the book). Question 2: Who was originally suppose to play the tin Woodsman but had to be replaced when he had an alergic reaction to the makeup and ended up in the hospital? See you tomorrow with the answers.

Ok, you got me, nice work on figureing them out. It turns out that they were worried about Shirley’s voice carrying through on the movie, otherwise they might have found a way to pick up her contract for 1 movie (it happened all the time when actors were tied to 1 company). You were also right about Buddy Epsen, you wouldn’t guess it from his later acting career but he was quite a hoofer back in the day.
