Right on! The US needs stronger privacy laws. Right now companies and the government have a capability that far exceeds anything George Orwell’s 1984 predicted. It is just a matter of putting it all together and that is improving everyday. Soon you will be able to ask Siri how your feeling.

Metadata is quite valuable. It lets them create a network map of the people and business you interact with. They can learn quite a bit about you using those connections. The real problem is people. If you could trust the people in government to use the data for it’s intended purpose, it would be OK. But people tend to use it to further their own agendas. Hoover collected files on anyone he didn’t like so he could use it against them. Imagine Joe McCarthy with access to NSA data. There a just too many people who are out for themselves and do not feel constrained by the law or ethics.

Considering how corporation/I mean people have got their tentacles into the government with their money/I mean free speech, government and corporations will be one in the same.People data should be owned by them. With the use of personal data and theft, things like Credit Bureaus by default should contact people whenever there is a change or inquiry that effects their credit. All company data collection should be by default opt out unless a person opts in. People should be able to control their own data like property.

Nailed it, Rob. I went on line, bout into some info, and found out more about myself than I ever knew. No NSA involved. Still. we don’t need NSA snooping. Better just to leave it in the hands of our corporate plutocratic masters. Al they really want is to drain us our money and resources. It’s nothing personal, you understand. It’s just business. Meanwhile, watch out when driving over that bridge!

It ain’t just NSA and the high tech firms listed in the cartoon.

You think every health plan and every life insurance company does not know about your heart problems? Or your diabetes? Or obesity? Or your acne? Or domestic violence issues? Or, or, or, or?

    But, it’s Good For Business.
