    [grin] Wonderful commentary! I think this speaks well of the fallacy of “year-round” schooling for K-12 education. I think our traditional approach is very successful and useful, and allows kids the open learning environment of the Summer to boot! It is what the child efforts (or the child’s parent’s efforts in guiding the child to put for effort) that makes the biggest difference in whether a child learns or not.

    The reason we have summer vacation is to allow children to work in the fields with the rest of their family. How many children do that these days?

    Um children not the only ones in school there are adults in different colleges. I am one taking on-line for summer my last summer one and last one for fall for my field of study.
