Good morning fans of Brandy (the human or liquid kind). How did easily distracted, intimidated and startled Frank ever become a veterinarian? Have a great weekend everyone.
You know what’s really weird about this? Not a few weeks earlier, they were running the strips where Frank DID ask Brandy out, and they DID go out on a date.
Now for pretty much the entire rest of the strip, they pretend that never happened, turning Frank into a lovelorn, shy boy unable to deal with his love for Brandy. The Frank we get here would never have been able to just walk up to Brandy and ask her out like that.
The funny thing is… that date they went on was a disaster. They had no chemistry, effectively showing that it’d never work out. It feels like Cho just wanted to re-do the whole thing and change focus (his original University-squared strip featured Frank & Brandy hooking up almost immediately) so that it was a “Nice Guy Pines For Hot Girl” thing.
It wasn’t until nearly the very end of the strip that Truman mentioned the early date and how “it was a disaster, so he never felt like he could ask her out again”. But even Brandy at the end was all “Why didn’t you ever ask me out? I would have said yes”. Except he DID. And SHE DID IN FACT SAY YES THAT TIME, TOO.
TV Tropes calls that “Early Installment Weirdness”- basically Cho ignored what he’d already done and restarted.
