As a baseball umpire, if I had a team doing whatever the Hack-A-Shaq equivalent would be (I’m not really sure what it would be to be honest) I would use the “Making a Mockery of the Game” rule, warn the team(s) that if it continues, I will start ejecting people. It’s ridiculous. Maybe the NBA should adjust the rule — you start Hack a Shaqing, call it a technical foul, other team shoots, then gets the ball at the center line.
@Geldhart, I claim BS as former players have said. How about actually learning that part of the game? Many retired players have said anyone can make more than 50%, if they wanted to.
@phei2582 No. Not from California. Not a Clippers fan. A for effort on your part, though. I’m not a fan of this tactic, no mater the team and no matter the player. Start calling it an intentional foul, whether or not the player has the ball EVERY time and this nonsense would stop in a hurry.
I’ve been amazed for years that they don’t enforce the intentional foul rule. But, since they don’t, there is a simple rule change that would stop at least some of this: give the fouled team the option of an out-of-bounds throw-in instead of a penalty shot.
