    You can’t shower while wearing a plaster cast !!

    @stlmaddog5

    Sure you can! Use the Press’n’Seal brand of plastic wrap around the cast. Wrap two layers, three is better, around everything. For a below-the-knee cast, one roll is enough for two showers.

    (Other brands might work, this is the one I know does, for certain.)

    Don’t Ask Me How I Know This.

    OBTW, casts aren’t plaster, any more, they’re a resin-impregnated cloth. Lots lighter!

    Those new casts are great. Fiberglass. You could probably get it damp, but not go swimming – or take a shower.

    . . . . and by the time you finish bathing and take all the plastic wrap off everything will be so wet from perspiration and condensation you might as well have entirely skipped trying to keep things dry.

    Shower? With a leg cast? Tell me how to do that, because I’ve got a broken leg in a case at the moment and would LOVE to take a shower!

    For me I had tear in meniscus inner left leg and I had to wait few days before I could get cleaned up. Left leg could not get wet due to stitches doctor’s orders. After stitches came out I could. I did wait then cleaned up what I could making sure wrap and stitches stayed dry.Now I am constantly doing therapy at home with my leg I have instructions. I had to do foot movement with wrap on to prevent blood clots. My knee is still sore in the bone.For Phil I wonder if he will have a walking cast?

    They should send a copy of this comic to the US Secretary of State John Kerry whose recent injuries in Switzerland were a broken leg near where he had a hip replacement.

    I put water in the tub, got in sideways and the leg stayed up and dry. Use a small container to throw water where you can’t soak

    Why anyone would use that type of crutch is beyond me. I have used my “gimp sticks” for years.http://www.ehow.com/info_8444363_canadian-crutches.html

    Before I got my “bunny boot” I couldn’t use any kind of crutches. I realize now that five years ago, I was already having significant problems with balance. I had to use a rolling desk chair till I could get a cheapie wheelchair at a big-box store. This afternoon a retired nurse spotted me in a grocery-store parking lot and wanted me to hire her to help out. I told her that no, I wasn’t quite ready. By the way, there are different kinds of pelvic fractures. My mom fractured her pelvis in her late 70’s, when she got tangled up with an ironing board, and was able to get around fine with a walker. We just moved her into our place for a couple of weeks, and we both worked during the daytime.
