I was wondering if I got the right comment language today, but I have learned enough Spanish to at least have gotten the gist of it all – very much like my time in Canada when I suddenly realized I didn’t remember which side of the grocery label I had just read.

I am confused. The comic I am seeing is in English and is discussing spelling on a report. The comments are in Spanish and appear to be totally unrelated to the comic. Did the Spanish and English versions of the strip get swapped for a while today or something?

My congregation is officially bilingual, yet I know of only one member (in her 80s) who was born in Mexico. Unlike the previous generation, they have preserved their use of Spanish and you will encounter the occasional conversation in Spanish, or more likely in both (TexMex). The liturgy is mostly in English, with at least one hymn in Spanish. Last Sunday (Pentecost) I read the Acts 2 passage in French while others provided English and Spanish (no Koiné or German this year). The more languages you can know (or at least read), the better off you are in this world.
