“Why antagonize people?” You miss the point. The criminals involved objected to the depiction of Muhammed in ANY way shape or form. They weren’t simply insulted. They were enforcing their religion on ‘infidels’, i.e. you and me. These people will always be antagonize, until the source of the offence is dead.
