Confused here. Does she mean that Wally Drinks and drives? Or, that she at least thinks that he does?

@ken: no, she doesn’t think that Wally drinks and drives… She’s just saying that she’s grateful that it wasn’t Wally involved in an accident.

Maybe, if the guy drank really often and used a significant part of family income for it, the family is secretly grateful it WAS them. Especially if he happened to be in the habit of driving his family while drunk.

If the other driver was drunk, Phil’s doubly lucky; it’s usually the drunk who survives.

30 years ago, a guy coming towards me straddled the median and hit a light post right beside me. The cop must’ve been following me (two blocks from the station, shift change time), so whenI had the chance to turn around to checking the guy, the officer was there and said the driver reeked, and was asleep. Totalled the car, never got a scratch, totally unaware of his trouble. Until the next morning, I’ll bet…

So much to be thankful for Phil made it they should feel for the family who lost the drunken man, unknown what kind of man who died from being drink.

Let this strip be a lesson to all of you. You drink, you, drive, you die.

    THINK ABOUT IT!

No way you should feel guilty. When a person makes a decision that has consequences, I am only thankful that they take their own lives and not some innocent bystander.

I just can’t shake the feeling that it’s unrealistic for a truck to hit a motorcycle and the truck driver to die, and not the cyclist. Oh, I know it’s possible, but still . . .

My dad was an alcoholic and always drove drunk. Had my poor mom so beaten down she wasn’t capable of arguing, and yeah it’s amazing we survived. We would have been very grateful if he’d taken himself out this way.

We had a fatality in front of our house several years ago. Drunk in a truck doing (the police figure) well over 80 on a 40 mph street. Crossed the center line and hit an on-coming car. The impact spun both vehicles around 180 degrees, and ripped the car apart. Passenger in the car died at the scene, and the drunk walked to the police car.

The irony was the passenger had been pulled over for driving with an expired license the day before, and was hitching a ride with a coworker until he could get to the DMV.

So wonderful to see Joan is still there at the hospital to support her sister. I see Jan knows survivor guilt is not limited to those who were actually involved in a traumatic event. And she nailed it as always! Also, increasing awareness of the serious consequences of driving while under the influence is a good thing. Thank you, Jan!
