A laundromat is an excellent place to get the mood of the electorate. I remember when Faubus was riding high in the corporate media after his insurrection, a political analyst’s wife returned from one on vacation and announced Faubus would lose to Rockefeller. No one believed it, but he did.
Even in state and many city elections, candidates truly coming from, and supported only by “the common man”, are actually as common as hen’s teeth. At the national level, by the time any politician gets there, cash is the only viable social contract.
