This is what I call a derp fail. The obvious escapes Lester.Iran has been months away from having the bomb for over a decade now. It seems obvious that Iran is less interested in threatening Israel than it is worried about it’s Sunni rivals getting nukes. Allowing inspections of a nuclear power generating program in exchange for preventing the Saudis, Egypt or Turkey from becoming nuclear states is in Iran’s interest.
Of course Iran would like to join the nuclear club, it would give them more leverage just like the other club members like Israel. It is a status symbol and a counter to the possibility Israel will use a nuke on them. A deal is difficult to make but certainly much better than starting another war. We need to bomb those 47 members of Congress who chose to act so irresponsibly.
“Yeah, Ted, we certainly can’t have those 47 Senators who simply stated the facts about our form of government.”You mean those fools who were schooled on American Governance by Iran’s Foreign Minister Zarif.
If this deal slows down Iran’s progress, that alone may could possibly turn to a benefit. Over the past several years, I have read articles about discontent among younger Iranians about their theocratic government, and Iran’s isolation from the mainstream world. A rebellion, a revolution, is not an impossibility, and the mullah’s know it. WE know it. With no agreement, what is the alternative?
What should be obvious is that the mushroom cloud is far more likely to come from the guy who already has hundreds of nuclear weapons, not the one still trying to build their first, single, one. That cloud would be over Tehran, not Tel Aviv.
wbr: actually, Jewish comedians as well as serious authors have long noted the Jewish people ARE among the most paranoid, and it goes back thousands of years, not just a century. The history of that does go back to when they were evicted and became the persecuted, in many ways, instead of the persecutors, of all their neighbors by such as Joshua and David.
Hmmmm, and now chickenhawks in the U.S. are afraid of their own shadows, especially if there’s a rainbow flag also casting one, and want only to destroy the world by war on Iran, or the environment, to “save themselves”, even if it destroys them. Being even a ferocious ferret left nearly alone, standing atop the mountain, challenging the eagle, isn’t smart policy.
Hello Harley! I’m back on a payroll! Good job, good company. It is up to US and our inspectors to keep up the monitoring of Iran’s facilities. If the Iranians welch, then the deal’s off. Sanctions should resume AT ONCE. Much will depend upon who’s in the White House in 2017. Personally, I believe that the Iranians, whether a theocratic or secular government, will pursue nuclear capability no matter what they sign. We can only hope that the mullahs will get booted out, and relations improved between the two great Satans. (us & them)

Doesn’t really matter why they want it. Having it is bad.

I’ve got an idea — let’s make sure that Iran doesn’t get nuclear weapons by NOT making a deal with them. That’s sure to work.
