He probably thinks about quiting the current drone programme every day, too.

If American citizens were dressed in orange jumpsuits, viciously tortured, crammed in cages for years without being charged with anything, and racist right wing foreigners from the country responsible claimed that they were being treated as though they were in a holiday resort, I wonder what Obama and his worshippers would’ve said.

The Senate Democrats, Ted? You make it sound like the Republicans were lining up to approve Gitmo’s closing. Was there anyone in Congress who didn’t reject it?

And he did, at Bagram in Afghanistan.

One of the more insightful comments on gitmo came from Jennifer Harbury who observed that without it, all we have left are the black sites. In other words, the torture doesn’t stop, it just goes underground.

I still say the best approach would be to open all the cage doors, and remove the fences that sourround Gitmo. They would have the choice of continuing to submit to horrible treatment, or walking into Cuba proper. Maybe they could even get decent medical treatment there, unlike the situation for many in the U.S.BTW, that approach wouldn’t require ANY appropriation of funds.

And that is something that will never happen, also. There’s no money in common sense. .Rad-ish, that’s true, that the right wingers were cowards. Unfortunately, they scared enough Democrats into making it a veto-proof majority. They weren’t frightened of terrorists; they were frightened of ads saying they were going to allow terrorists to kill us all. By the way, terrorists don’t want to kill us all. That wouldn’t do them any good. They want to terrorize us, and based on this vote, I’d say they’ve won.

Part of the definition of terrorist is someone who uses force to instill fear. The drone program certainly fits.

You don’t need a super max. Attica, in upstate New York (some of you may remember that name) has never had an escape. I’m sure there are many maximum security facilities throughout the country that have never had an escape. The Gitmo closing fiasco is another example of us living in fear. Thus the terrorists have achieved one of their goals.

“Bottom line, you can not show me or anyone where putting the animals back into the wild has helped the USA, but I can show you where they have returned to the battlefield to murder again.”Um: “animals”? Really? But: I’m especially interested in this meme about jihadis returning to the battlefield. And that battlefield is…where? Hint: it’s not in the US. Or near the US.It’s in THEIR countries. They’re defending themselves from US invading them. We’re not the victims here.

Well put. I agree.
