Wrong!!: A preying mantis lays eggs in a frothy deposit first and then, after a time, they babies emerge from the eggs. I hope the kids don’t harm the babies even though they’re just supposed to be eggs.

One year we kids collected tadpoles from a nearby creek and kept them in a fishbowl to watch them develop. Then we went camping, and when we returned the house was full of tiny frogs.

Their own species as well. Even if they’re not mating!

According to what I found, the life cycle of a female mantis ends after she has laid the eggs and they won’t hatch until the following spring. So today’s strip is very misleading.

I expected that the children all developed a “Mind Over Matter” and saw a giant mantis that was really the small mantis Boog brought in. This is a surprise, but then in this same strip, one can cross a very unstable bridge without falling, even if it is breaking up right behind their last foot fall.
