It was thought after the last election Republicans would finally be able to get some legislation to at least reach the President’s veto pen. However, it appears as if even a Republican “bomb expert” would have a hard time defusing the device in this cartoon. On a relevant note, the Republicans have established two new precedents since the election. For the first time, the leader of another country was invited to speak to Congress by someone OTHER than the President; and, 47 Republican senators sent a letter to Iran in violation of an established and long respected law preventing legislators to take such actions. The former is not illegal, but is considered improper etiquette and WHEN Democrats do the same thing some time in the future, the Republicans will be very upset. The latter issue IS illegal, but the law making it illegal may be unconstitutional. Had Dems taken such an action, it is highly likely some Republicans would have been crying “Treason!”Our nation is facing an explosive future if our two party oligarchy fails to set aside its tribal and self serving behaviors and start doing the jobs they were elected to do.Respectfully,C.

“ …Our nation is facing an explosive future if our two party oligarchy fails to set aside its tribal and self serving behaviors and start doing the jobs they were elected to do.”

A lot of the animosity between the two right leaning parties seems to be theater. Our millionaire congress has conferred upon its members rights and privileges that are illegal for ordinary citizens. In spite of the repeated warnings from our founders, we have allowed the corruption of our representative democracy by political parties and money. My representatives answer my letters and e-mails with form letters that sometimes are totally irrelevant. I have one framed that extols the virtues of outsourcing when my e-mail was seeking advice on how to prevent the off-shoring of 30,000 engineering jobs.

As a child, I extracted the carbon rods from old batteries for experimenting. I was dismayed at easy they broke. I also have a scar on my left knee, that I got while working on construction to pay my college tuition. I got that scar when a co-worker used a cast iron pipe instead of a steel rod to guide a cable that was winching a heavy machine off of a loading dock. Both iron and carbon, though pure are brittle, but when combined in proper proportions, make a superior steel alloy. Some of our bipartisan decisions have been our best.

We need to either compromise or do away with these political parties (unions?) that no longer serve their constitutional requirements of representing all citizens.

Try being competent and looking out for the interests of ALL Americans, not just illegals and those not working..….and you might turn into a unicorn.

    1. Any member of Congress presenting the known facts that no viable WMDs or “nuclear program” existed in Iraq at the time of "W"’s actions was literally branded guilty of treason in press, and by Republicans, My Senator on the Intelligence Committe was silent due to laws on “secrecy”, and voted AGAINST all efforts to invade. The truth was illegally, and imorally concealed from the public, thousands died.

    2. It’s absolutely fascinating that 47 Senat members can’t read the Constitution, or laws of the nation, and violate them. Likewise though not illegal per se, treating a foreign leader (Of the only Middle East nation to attack the U.S. Navy without provocation) as the arbitor of our foreign policy and allowing him to address the Congress as if he WAS OUR PRESIDENT, is shameful, and they should all resign.
