I question the use of the word “news” in reference to this particular subject. News programs stopped covering actual news years ago.
Breaking news has become “We don’t have the facts, but that won’t stop us from broadcasting our conjecture.”
I remember that when they broke into prime-time programming with a “Special Report”, it caught your attention immediately. Back then, something really big and important had happened!
