The invasion of Iraq — the gift that keeps on giving.

And Republicans/Fox “news” viewers think it was just swell.

That animal should be portrayed as an elephant. And that’s no bull.

^HIram, recognized the first Bush screwup in ’91 that led us into this mess. I protested, as a combat veteran with a son in the military the insanity of the second Bush invasion, along with millions around the world who knew it was nuts and based on total lies.

Limiting the resolution to three years will make Congress actually do their jobs, so they hate that “limit”, which forces them to.

I’ve spoken up for the Pres before, but unless he definitely knows some things we don’t, even this is dangerous. As Ahab points out, once you put a foot into the tar pit, it is usually very difficult to pull out.

Betcha he doesn’t do the full eight seconds. No surprise about this, he’s pandered to the public every other way.

echoraven: serving your country isn’t a lefty or rightie thing, though chickenhawks seem to me almost always “righties”. I DID tell my son that if he joined The Air Force or Navy, okay, but if he joined the Army or Marines, I’d disown him for stupidity, as I didn’t want him around the folks I was (the slightly crazy ones.) He went nuke with the Navy, then SEABEE, and spent five years with the teams, as a SEABEE, those same crazies (actually the most intelligent folks in the military), and he had “interesting” experiences there with them. He did what they did, plus fixed the showers. He’s also a disabled retiree from those experiences.

btw: I’m socially liberal, fiscally far more conservative than anyone a Republican “conservative”, anti-stupid war, but not by any means a pacifist. We just need to stop running around looking for people to screw with, and causing far more trouble than we’d have had if we’d been smarter, and not let Pentagon and the MIC thinking run things.

Yes, "Nam was indeed a lesson plan, on how it is also our DUTY as citizens to speak out AGAINST stupidity and American hegemony when it’s against our, or other folks, best interests.

“Liberal” means thinking things out, and demanding facts, not fictions and lies, and fully analyzing situations BEFORE jumping in, not after. Diplomacy also is a much more powerful, and lasting, tool, than an over-reactive military response.

Cora: DUCK! “Allah” is just Arabic for “God”- the same God of Abraham you’re so enthralled with, so YOU are getting killed too! sort, sort, sort, snort, snort snort.

Doesn’t every president? Obama is just trying to get the congress to vote where there mouths are. I doubt Obama is going to put a fighting force in the middle east with the mess it is. Countries in the middle east that don’t want ISIS operate are going to have to step up. We willsee who we can support.

^Mostly seperate on not finding quite the “evil” many libertrians hold to “government”, even though I agree we’ve done a pretty good job of screwing up government since Reagan far wosrse than in any previous time in history. That includes that little argument from 61-65, as in 18 and 61.

I also agree law should be intelligently formed and implimented, but not quite so offended by having laws to “protect and serve” the population, as in “promote the general welfare” in that funny piece of paper.

But, yeah, I’m finding many “libertarian” views more practical than either Shia or Sunni, er, excuse me, Republican or Democrat, have come up with lately.
