How many have lost their jobs as the price of oil drops? How much a barrel does it cost to break even on tar sands??—————————————————————/-/It’s called construction kiddo! These are THOUSANDS of high-paying jobs for years!Yes, once it’s built, those workers go onto other jobs. Get it?Sorry they aren’t gov’ment jobs where u sit around for 20 years doing very little for a comfy paycheck supplied by taxpayers.
The problem is Keystone is important only to Canada and the oil companies who what to ship more oil off shore. It is a risk to the environment since pipeline operators don’t seem to be able to detect leaks that are less than 50,000 barrels of oil. It creates little in the way of permanent jobs.
I live in a small town with a perfect example of what the Keystone will mean “economy-wise” along the line. Small businesses will beef up to “supply the demand” from the construction boom, as promoted by the pipeline company, and invest (borrow) to build up their small business. The line workers will come in, briefly, then leave the business owners to file for bankruptcy, because the “economic boost” from construction was less than 10% of what the pipeline company promised. We lost a two restaurants and two other businesses, but the hardware store did see about a 10% increase in business, for eight whole months!
There ARE indeed lots of pipelines in the U.S., most degrading because of lack of maintenance, Keystone is a fraud and ripoff of American PRIVATE LANDS by a Canadian company, which is the main actual “pipelin” objection. The environmental problems are in dealing with what the line will carry, huge pollution!
We don’t need this pipeline. It’s to make money for people outside the United States, and it messes up whatever it touches with leaks, fires, and worse.
We do need infrastructure. Ever drive over a bridge? Glad you made it. They’re all time bombs, and their time is getting closer.
I’m pretty sure fixing the infrastructure would make more than 35 full-time, permanent jobs. And supplies would need to be purchased for them. (Senator Franken proposed making all of that steel come from the USA, but GOP patriots voted it down.)
BtW: Keystone XL bypasses at least eight refineries that could gear up to handle that messy stuff, but they don’t want to be stuck with the waste. It’s a bypass the U.S. market to go straight to export of the product, period.
“DUH, because the refineries are not there! Why are Liberals so dense?”For the time and money the pipeline will take, TransCanada can build it’s own refineries in Canada. Why are you so rude?
