And worse, Joy thinks Burl is the smartest, handsomest, most scintillating man in the universe, so she has no brains either.
Poor Pam, she has a face that would make a freight train take a dirt road. But her dad loves her and shows off her picture. And Burl is put in the unenviable position of having to make some sort of comment. And a pretty good one, I think, for a no-win situation. Pam’s mom is having none of it, though. Pam favors her mother’s family, who collectively caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.What a great prize! A 1989 Ford Tempo. Probably stored and forgotten years ago. Maybe one day it’ll have the value of a Shelby GTO. (Saw one today. Not a kit, the real McCoy.)
I guess my psychic powers are failing. I just can’t see $1,000 in Burl’s future. .I guess he can kind of make up for this by refraining at pie throwing time. He’s never willingly let a pie get away from him in his life.

I think Burl’s enjoying his little joke….he thinks he can imply that the boss’ daughter is ugly, and it’ll be taken as a compliment.
Trouble is, he’s not as bright as he thinks he is…and other people refuse to be as stupid as he thinks they are.
