I have no personal knowledge of these things, but it seems to me that a device designed to locate wrecked aircraft should certainly survive a landing that causes no personal injuries.
This should have been submitted a few days ago, when Jill flew into the storm, but here is a display of how well jetliners dodge thunderstorms. Notice how they make themselves altogether scarce or fly in circles (from 0:12 to 0:22 in the video) when the airport itself is under a storm:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWv4wyy_Jqg
And that’s what wings are for in situations like this – shelter from rain. If they want to get fancy, pile some palm branches against the windward side.
