Texas can certainly hold a vote to ask for secession and Congress can grant it, something I support for any state whose citizens want to leave the union. Aside from the military removing its weapons, ammo, and equipment from the state, I’d support giving the succeeding state the in-state land otherwise held by the federal government. A 2-year transition of power would allow most citizens to move into or out of Texas before officially becomes independent. That should give the Tea Partiers enough time to flock to their new Utopia. My only condition is that the newly independent Texas must agree to never ask for or accept aid from the US government.
The Republic of Texas entered the union under “different” cicrcumstances, so any federal land there was actually purchased, but they have gotten more than their share of benefits from the taxpayers in the rest of the states, like Johnson Spade Center et al.
Texans have always had a bit different view of themselves, but so did Narcissus.
Mostly good points, except for Social Security payments. People who have paid in to SS do not have to reside in the U.S. to receive their payments.
As for gold reserves … hah! NOBODY has gold reserves anywhere close to their money in circulation. We probably don’t have enough to cover the yearly interest on the national debt, much less the debt and the money in circulation.

These politicians in Texas, and elsewhere, are discovering the folly of their ideas.(also see Kansas, what’s left of it)

Well it might give them something to try to get overturned besides “Obamacare” and abortion rights.
