Yes. Betty is Canadian. We say both. Grade 9 and ninth grade.Not freshman.
And in England now-a-days they say ‘Year 9’. In my day it’d be ‘first form’, ‘second form’ on up to the ‘sixth form’ (divided into the ‘lower sixth’ and ‘upper sixth’)… Ah! Happy days, more-or-less.
Here in the good ol’ U.S. of A, we just say “9th Grade”
