    ‘Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey; A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you? Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey; A kiddley divey too, wouldn’t you? If the words sound bleeep and funny to your ear, a little bit jumbled and jivey; Sing “Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy.” ’

    it is interesting how people are suddenly realizing that the Catholic Church isn’t composed of “white hats”, the way they present themselves…wonder how much longer it is going to take for people to realize that the protestants aren’t one whit nicer or more moral.

    ^Moormans are worse. They engage in politics (violation of church and state) and wear magical underwear.

    Kylop, if they added THAT to the vestments, I might attend a service or two!

    ”In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Beaglepuss…”

    As one Roman soldier said to the other, pounding nails in the dust and sun, “Boy, T.G.I.F, huh?”

    Well, Gladius, acronyms are generally all caps anyway, so it would work either way. The spelled-out version, if the Romans spoke modern English idiom, would be “Thank the gods it’s Friday”, or perhaps “Thank Jupiter it’s Friday” (“T.J.I.F.”?)…

    I’ve wanted to do a cartoon of just this scene, which on its face would likely be deeply offensive, but could also, in the right light, be food for thought for Christians. As with the anecdote of the soldiers casting dice for Jesus’s clothes, the irony of mundane behavior occurring simultaneously to the culmination of the (supposedly) most momentous event in the history of the world is not without a scriptural basis.

    For the soldiers, the crucifixion was just part of their job, and not a very pleasant one. Their thanking of God/gods/whatever for the approaching weekend(1) even as they are in the act of killing God/God’s Son/whatever is too good a juxtaposition to go unremarked upon. I think it’s the single best cartoon idea I’ve ever had, but I have absolutely no idea where it could be published… (If I ever DO get around to committing this to paper, I’ll make sure one of the soldiers has a gladius in his belt, as a tip of the hat.)

    (1) Obviously, I’m not claiming that Roman soldiers observed a Monday-Friday work week, other than for the purposes of the joke.

    Sooky Rottweiler says;

    Shephard, huh? Well my dad was a cattle-guarding dog, and he never had to taught me that you’re supposed to do that with female dogs and maybe human legs instead of cows because that was just a no brainer!
