I got hooked on theater my freshman year in college: the T&D department at UW-Madison was phenomenal in the mid to late 90’s. Consistently overbudget I was told when I started volunteering there in the 2000’s. I used to catch all the plays I could but my finances have eroded since 2009. I haven’t seen a play since 2012. Sigh.

Worked in college theater and little theater for many years….sets, props, costumes, theater photography. Loved it. I really miss it.

Opera is just a musical with larger voices and a different language. Musicals are just plays where the words were put to song and sometimes dance. Plays are just stories you have read put into live action. Westside Story is a musical that can pass as an opera. And it is based on a play of a story we all know – Romeo and Juliet. – - I had always seen bits and pieces of Westside Story – Then our local opera company put on Westside Story – won me over.
