Joan: Sooo...how do you feel about being engaged?
Val: Elated, overwhelmed, scared to death, walking on air, sure I've made a big mistake...
Val: Fine!
I find it extraordinarily refreshing to find a female character who is reluctant at times about marriage. They’re usually portrayed as “husband hunters”. Women do have concerns about loss of autonomy, privacy, etc. when entering into a wedded state. It will be interesting to see the outcome of Val’s ambivalence as the engagement moves along.
Boy, Val, if you’re that ambivalent, maybe you shouldn’t be getting married. I had no qualms that I was marrying the right man (after 20 years of being single after the first disaster).
And even knowing he’s the right one it’s been a huge adjustment and sometimes very rough. 95% wonderful, for the last 11 years.
What am I saying…it’s a comic strip !!! Go for it Val. All will be great

I doubt that’s what Val also said when she was first engaged to her first husband when asked by her dear sister Joan.

Great simple word Val. I imagine most brides feel that way as planning a big day the ceremony is very short.
For SS I really will miss commenting. I will miss commenting on strips for the future. I will look at comics but will start getting busy.
Since we have no clue when the big day will take place. For me semester will be very busy.
