Tom – Do you suppose because it was too hard to say, “Because I have asthma that stress can trigger plus four of you are compressing my chest by piling on top of me and one of you is applying a chokehold on me I can’t get a full breath and I feel like I’m suffocating…” eleven times, he misspoke, saying he couldn’t breathe? Regardless, he was killed for being suspected of selling individual cigarettes. Even if he WAS selling individual cigarettes, in your world that surely isn’t naughty enough to justify the death penalty. The man is dead over a minor transgression (if he did indeed sell cigarettes illegally), the coroner ruled it a homicide, and we’re quibbling about this???

The man resisted.Taxes, taxes, taxes…It was the fault of the govt. that MUST have more and more money. They are so intent on getting every penny. The officers were just carrying out their duties to enforce the law. They even enforce STUPID laws!

1- As someone who suffered asthma in adolescence, I can say that you can still speak as you feel an attack coming on. The whole “you can’t speak if you can’t breathe” is a lie created after the fact. His death is proof that he was telling the truth.2- He was resisting arrest. Check the video. All he was doing was asking to be left alone. He did not attack the police officers. He was walking away from them. It could have been handled in much better manner. Instead, a 25 year old cop decided to escalate the situation by using physical force.3- It’s the liberals and taxes. That’s all the libertarians know how to talk about. A husband and father is dead and all they can talk about is taxes. If Garner had bought those cigarettes at a legitimate establishment, the government had all the taxes they were going to collect. He then sold the cigarettes for $1 or $1.50 to people who can’t afford to pay $12.99 per pack. Yes, that is how much a pack of cigarettes cost in NYC.4- He was obese, diabetic, asmathic and had heart problems. So, this was some form euthanasia for a man with serious health problems? Should the Garner family be grateful to the police officers for this act of mercy? The trigger that caused Garner’s death is the attack by the police officers. If the police had not escalated the situation into physical confrontation, Garner will probably be alive today with all his health problems.
