Holly: It's almost Christmas. Think we'll get what we want?
Alix: Guess not.
Phil: Holly? Alix? C'mere.
Phil: Think she'll like it?
Phil: Wish me luck.
Holly: Considering it's our neurotic mom, we'll wish for a miracle.
I just glad this story arc is nearing its end. Six weeks of this is enough. It makes Cathy’s getting married look like a one panel comic. Shoulda known Eliot was aiming for Christmas.
Okay, in my comics feed, below “Stone Soup” is “Strange Brew” within an ‘eh, whatever’’ snowman trapped in a snow globe next to panicked snow wo/man trapped in another snow globe. Not sure if this portends well…..Just saying….
This is a “dream sequence” just like on Dallas. They will all wake up in a sweat going “Whew, that was close!” If this is not a dream this will become just another lame comic strip that is already so predictable readers will abandon will fury!
Most of these comments seem sure that Val will say “yes”. I think there’s still a good chance for a “no” (at least at first). I’d say odds of a yes ~50%, odds of no ~20%, odds of delaying an answer ~30%.
Lots of people think that marriage is the ideal ending… but I’m not one of them. I’m not against them getting married; but I’m more of a if they are committed to each other, that is good enough for me! :D
I think we are in for at least a week of Val not knowing what to say to Phil. I’m sure some semblance of the words “didn’t we agree to discuss this later?” will come up.
I do see many threads that Jan could get from the scenario of them being engaged… but like a few people have commented, I don’t see marriage as the ultimate ending or “doing the right thing.” Sure, it is nice, but a piece of paper shouldn’t change anything if one is in a committed relationship. (Unless there is really good tax breaks, what does that piece of paper prove?)
Well, if Val and Phil get engaged and then married, Jan will have to shuffle Val and Phil on the Stone Soup header, so they’ll be together instead of on opposite sides.
Jan Eliot has dealt with a controversial subject (inter-racial marriage) with beautiful grace. I realize the difficulties that come with it but applaud her for the way she introduced the character, developed him over a looong time, and is now taking it to the next logical level… without having him “move in,” thus setting the proper example for the girls. Thanks, Jan.

The girls will be excited next step work on their mom. Now we wait to see what Val says. Oh the anxiety of waiting. Will there be a Christmas miracle?

Y’’all realize, don’t you, that the dynamics of the strip will change if Val remarries. Maybe it’s time for that. Maybe not!

The girls will tip off Evie, and we will find out just how fast one can travel from South Africa to join the sales team.

I have a feeling she will say no. With the arc of them discussing marriage…her say yes is too predictable. Her answer will be:
No because I feel you are only proposing because you feel you have to not because you want to.
