It bugs me when “polite kids” or folks say “sir” to me, and I often correct them that I was enlisted, and proudly NOT an officer! That was the 60’s also, and the start of “fragging” wasn’t always ill-placed agression, as it was often a true defensive action.

Not at all “anti-military” just alergic to stupidity, like that of those who supported Reagan/Bush 41 and 42, and the two most dispicable slime-molds in U.S. history, Secretaries of Defense Rumsfeld and Cheney. Rummy was a peace-time Air Force, and Cheney a draft dodger and war profiteer, well, they both fall in that latter.
Tom argued the messenger, not the message. Whether what Tom said is true or not, that is an ad hominem. If Tom has an argument to counter what dtroutma had to say, I’d love to hear it. He didn’t, so he attacked the messenger.
