Here in Pittsburgh Pa Kaufman’s department store (now Macy’s) had the coolest mezzanine. It had a low ceiling and lots of polished brass. It had the doughnut, candy, nut shops located there. It also had the repair shops there for shoes, umbrellas, leather goods such as purses and luggage. Really neat place to stroll through and beg mom for a bag of hot salted peanuts!

When I take the elevator, it’s M for mezzanine, G for ground floor, and B for basement.
