^^ If you did serve our country trout, thank you. You deserve the best, even if I think your politics are nuts.I wish Obama treated vets the way they deserved for the last 6 years.

Aside from the VA, there are many privately-funded & staffed volunteer organizations to help returning combat vets re-adjust to civilian life, after the horrors they experienced in the Mid-East. I wonder how much money the Koch Bros. donated to these groups?

Probably safe to assume Lapel Pin Guy has shares in military stocks and/or financial interests in extending the American Empire abroad. Also that he cherishes low taxes, readily accepts military losses, and that more military people take their own life than are killed in battle (some reports say several per day). But LPGuy will feel obliged and will feel good twice per year or so for thanking the troops for their service and for “keeping America free / safe” The insanity!

‘She should show respect!’ Twitter reacts after Loose Women panelist Jamelia chooses to not wear poppy.

"Speaking on the daytime show, Jamelia addressed why she’s made the decision not to wear one, explaining: “I completely appreciate and respect what the poppy stands for, I support and I always donate to the poppy appeal, I don’t feel the need to display it publicly.” ….“On Armistice Day if I am doing something professionally then I will wear one as I think it’s important on that day to show respect and show that you care.”

I think wearing a poppy, or a lapel pin in the USA, allows many to somehow feel better that they are supporting veterans. I’m not so sure about that. For most it’s just paying lip-service. I concur with Jamelia above (whom I’ve never heard of before until now).

I’m in Vienna at the moment. I wonder what reaction one would get if someone wore a poppy? I doubt many would recognise it though. There are actually quite a few programmes on in Vienna about the first world war.

The ‘toon is exactly why I can’t stand the hypocrisy of so many who wear the pins, and so loudly complain (whine) whenever any politician doesn’t.

“Liberals throw the successes and efforts of our military in the garbage.”Another empty anti-liberal assertion with nothing to back it up. How fun! Perhaps you could give us some kind of example of your assertion. Don’t be shy. Get as specific as you want. Pop in a few links to sources while you’re at it. We’d love to hear your reasoned arguments (if you have any).

^^^^^Wikipedia………CNN reported on April 30, 2014 that at least 40 United States Armed Forces veterans died while waiting for care at the Phoenix, Arizona, Veterans Health Administration facilities. By June 5, 2014, Veterans Affairs internal investigations had identified 35 veterans who had died while waiting for care in the Phoenix VHA system.4 An investigation of delays in treatment throughout the Veterans Health Administration system is being conducted by the Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General,567 and the House has passed legislation to fund a $1 million criminal investigation by the Justice Department.8 On May 16, 2014, the Veterans Health Administration’s top health official, Dr. Robert Petzel, retired early at the request of Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki.910 On May 30, 2014, Secretary Shinseki resigned from office amid the fallout from the controversy.1112 As of early June 2014, several other VA medical centers around the nation have been identified with the same problems as the Phoenix facility, and the investigations by the VA Inspector General, the Congress and others are widening.5121314151617

An internal VA audit released June 9, 2014 found that more than 120,000 veterans were left waiting or never got care and that schedulers were pressured to use unofficial lists or engage in inappropriate practices to make waiting times appear more favorable.18

And if Republicans had actually provided the staffing, not just cash- they took control of how money is spent agencies as well, and if VA hadn’t long been forced to go with ridiculous accounting to meet their “demands”, things wouldn’t have gotten so bad, decades ago. Reagan and Bush 41, mostly the latter, was the one who really inserted the shaft in vets backs.

“As a Vietnam combat veteran, I’m always somewhat annoyed on days like this when those of my generation who did everything possible to avoid serving all come out with their statements in support of veterans.”-And here I thought you were a big fan of W and Cheney.

And, of course, Willard the ChickenHawk.

You have to be flipping kidding me. This country treats vets so well, it’s often embarrassing. Earth to morons, there are people who are almost impossible to assist. Some of them are vets. Grow the flip up, geniuses.
