Anne is a glutton for punishment. Who knows, she just might have a girl this time…and girls are (usually) a bit easier to raise until it is high-school time… ;)

It is the only time she sees her husband. He is gone because he is a traveling salesman and only come home to ‘renew his wedding night’ ! !! !

To borrow from Groucho Marx, “I like my cigar, but I take it out once in a while.”

Yeah, Annie only had Baby Richard under control when he was in the womb. (And I bet he kicked a lot then, too.)

I am no fan of Annie, but compared to the parents who appear regularly in our national news for beating their kids (including big deal sports ‘heroes’), Annie appears to be only indifferent to the teaching of good behavior. That isn’t the same as beating a kid, or leaving them home alone with no food.

Correct me if I am wrong, but was there one strip where Michael misbehaved and Elly is her usual annoyed self, then remarks “Someday I hope you have a kid who puts you through what I have gone through”. Michael retorts “Grandma says that is what she used to tell you”

I wonder if Ellie will maintain her position in the last panel when April is using her bladder for a soccer ball.

My older son and daughter are both relatively easy, and my youngest daughter is the most challenging by far. She is physically by far the most daring, and has no fear of anything. Perhaps, it’s not boys or girls who are easier or harder, but particular individuals, combined with the personality and discipline of the family into which they’re born.

Then again, I stopped when things got beyond me.

Many parents love pregnancy and babies, because they are cute and portable and loving and need them. Many of my parent-friends miss the days of infancy. That’ sounds just like Annie. I am the opposite. I love children best from about age 4 or 5, when they can speak and be reasoned with, and start to tell you the amazing things in their heads <3
